Rats are a small and extremely weak special monster. Rats have a tiny hitbox which allows them to sneak around dwarven defenses to break torches. Rats only have 10 hearts, so they are only able to take a few hits by a sword and one hit by a bow.

Rat talons allow rats to get 55 Mana when they break torches, this allows rats to quickly upgrade their monster trees.
They can also steal shrine gold by right-clicking on the shrine for a slow drain (two gold per click).
