Dwarves vs Zombies is one big giant role playing game. The idea is that the last remaining people of an ancient Dwarven civilization are preparing themselves for their final battle as hordes of monsters rain down on them to destroy their precious Dwarven Shrine. Unfortunately, there are just a few dwarves remaining to defend the shrine, and the monster hordes are endless. The dwarves must defend their shrine for as long as possible, fighting until the very last dwarf falls.
In DvZ, everyone starts as a dwarf and has one in-game Minecraft day (approximately 11 minutes) to prepare for the upcoming invasion. When night hits, the dwarves are hit with a plague that kills many dwarves, after which, the monsters are released. You only get one life in a game of DvZ, and if you die you will come back as a monster.
You can pick between three types of basic monsters (Zombies, Skeletons, Goblins) that each have a strong purpose in defeating the dwarves. You will also have a chance to choose to be one of the random special monsters with special abilities. If you are hit by the plague, your goal is to destroy the dwarven shrines as fast as possible. If you remain a dwarf, your goal is to survive as long as possible while defending your home and shrine until you die and also want to destroy all the shrines as fast as possible.
It is important to remember that this is not a competitive game. There is no way for the dwarves to win and you should really try to get into the character you are playing: a dwarf defending his land or a monster pillaging it.
